History of the sport of Swimming

Swimming is defined as a physical activity in which the body is propelled into the water by using the movements of the arms and legs; This causes the body to float naturally in the water. Swimming can be a sport practiced by some or it may be a recreational activity for people. Swimming has been known since a long history stretching back to 2500 BC; Where it was practiced in Egypt, swimming was known in later civilizations such as the Assyrian, Greek, and Roman civilizations, and swimming was part of the combat training that the ancient Greeks and Romans knew, and it was even part of the teaching curriculum for males in the primary education stage, and at the level of competitive sports it was Men's swimming was included as one of the Olympic Games in 1896, followed by women's swimming in 1912​​

Olympiad

Swimming has not been absent from the modern Olympic Games since the launch of the first edition in 1896 in Athens to this day, and women participated in swimming competitions for the first time in the fifth edition in 1912 in Stockholm, where swimming is considered one of the most popular sports in the Olympic Games. The most number of events after athletics in the first four editions of the Olympics, swimming competitions were not held in the pools, but were practiced in the open waters, and the pools were used for the first time in the Stockholm Games in 1912, and in 1968 it was decided to add a new event for women, the 800-meter race, where Some have seen that women do not have the physical ability for such long races, but starting from the next Olympic Games (Tokyo 2020) women will participate in the 1500 meters race for the first time as men, and since the 2008 Beijing Games, an open water marathon has been added for both sexes​
