UAE players won 51 colored medals in the first edition of the Mohammed bin Hamad International Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which took place yesterday at Khalifa Hall in Fujairah, with the participation of 300 male and female players representing 20 countries from different continents of the world.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, witnessed part of the competition and crowned a number of winners in the first places, in the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, President of the Emirates Federation for Body Building and Physical Strength, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, and Brigadier Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the Emirates Federation For Taekwondo, Vice President of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, and a large gathering of sports leaders and fans of the game.
The UAE champions were able to continue their march of excellence and monopolize the podiums by winning 17 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze medals, which were enough to occupy the first place in the general standings. The Brazilian team came in second place with 14 medals, including 6 gold, 4 silver and the same bronze, then Russia in third place with four medals. Including two golds, a silver and a bronze, and Iran in fourth place with two silvers and two bronzes, then the Philippines with silver and eight bronzes, and Comoros with two silvers and a bronze, and England with one gold and the same for Kuwait, Ukraine, Morocco, Turkmenistan and France, and India won one silver and the same for Jordan, while the bronze went to the Sultanate of Oman and Italy with one medal For both of them.
Among the most prominent results of the championship in the men’s category is the black belt under the weight (77) kg, the player Julie Junior from Brazil won the first place, the player Giboa da from India came in the second place, and Josemar Junior from Brazil won the third place, and in the same weight the brown belt player Antonio da Silva won From Brazil, the first place came, while his compatriot Asica da Silva came in second, and Shams Al Shamsi of the United Arab Emirates ranked third.
As for the most prominent individual results of the UAE players, Al Jazira Club player Zayed Al Kathiri won the gold medal in the weight of 60 kg, a white belt, followed by Al Orouba Club player Mohammed Hayay with silver, and Sharjah player Mohammed Al Matrooshi with bronze, and the player of Sharjah Club Abdullah Al Mazmi won a bronze in the weight of 73 kg as well as a white belt. And in the weight of 60 kilograms, a blue belt won the player Hamad Muhammad Nawad the gold, followed by Al-Ain player Salem Sultan, the silver, then Muhammad Ali Al-Suwaidi the bronze, and in the weight of 94 kilograms the blue belt, Al-Ain player Hamid Al-Kaabi won the gold, and Al-Jazira player Muhammad Al-Kaabi won the silver, and in the weight of 69 kilograms Grams for the youth category, white belt, Al-Nasr player Abdul Rahman Al-Barghouti won the gold, followed by the silver Omar Muhammad from the Nogueira Dubai team, and Saud Al-Naqbi from Al-Wahda Club with the bronze.
Yousef Al-Batran, a member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the official of club affairs, confirmed that the His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi Jiu-Jitsu Championship has achieved a resounding success thanks to the good organization and strong competition. He thanked His Highness, the Crown Prince of Fujairah for the support and generous care, his attendance at the tournament and the coronation of elite prominent players. For his part, the national team player Mubarak Al-Kindi (blue belt), who won gold at the World Championships in France, said: I am overjoyed to win the silver medal in the championship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi in the weight of 110 kg, and it would have been better if I had not felt some pressure due to fasting.
