The competitions for the first edition of the Fujairah Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, will start at 2:00 pm today, with the participation of 389 male and female players aged 18 and over representing 35 countries. The first day “without a suit” with the participation of 139 players, led by the UAE with 61 players, followed by Brazil with 17 players and Russia with 6 players. The players are distributed according to the belts as follows: 65 players in the white belt, 41 players in the blue belt, 7 players in the purple belt, and the same Brown belt and 19 black belt players.
On the second day of the tournament, which is dedicated to competitions in the suit, 250 players will participate, led by the UAE with 113 male and female players, followed by Brazil and Russia, and the players are divided according to belts.
Yousef Al-Batran, a member of the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation, confirmed the completion of all preparations for the launch of the Fujairah Open Championship, which was approved as a base station for the Jiu-Jitsu season, which reflects the Federation's goals to expand the game and spread the sport in all emirates of the country.
Salem Al-Zahmi, Director of the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, announced that the sport of Jiu-Jitsu will be officially announced in Fujairah during the coming period in the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. This effective contribution to the qualitative leap witnessed by the Emirati sport in this type of individual sports and jiu-jitsu in particular is to direct the young people to the right path and to contribute effectively to providing the national teams with players from Fujairah who are able to harvest colorful medals.
For his part, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei, Managing Director of the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), stressed that the strategic partnership with the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation aims to enable Emirati youth to develop their athletic performance and compete strongly at the local and international levels.

Talal Merheb, General Manager of Al Tayer Motors Sales, confirmed the support of the first edition of the Fujairah Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, with the expansion of the tournament base to include the eastern region this year, adding that it is necessary to attract future sports talents in the Emirate of Fujairah and encourage young people to participate.
Eyes on Abu Dhabi International
The Fujairah Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship is the fourth championship held for the adult category during the 2015/2016 Jiu-Jitsu sports season. The Federation organized the Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship in September, followed by the Dubai Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in October, and the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in December. The Federation will also organize a Championship Sharjah Open for Jiu-Jitsu in February The Federation concludes its local rounds in April of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in its eighth edition.
Jiu-Jitsu cures addiction
Rashid Abdullah Al-Hamoudi, director of the Fujairah Jiu-Jitsu team, revealed that one of the team's players continues his treatment to get rid of the scourge of drug addiction through his practice of jiu-jitsu.
Al-Hamoudi told the story with reservations about the player’s name for his privacy, noting that the player was involved in the serious scourge, and spent a period in prison, and when he got out of it, he chose to practice jiu-jitsu based on honest advice by specialists, as well as the team’s technical staff that engaging in jiu-jitsu can be practiced. To lead him to get rid of the problem once and for all.
Fujairah team is born big
The Fujairah Jiu-Jitsu team was created out of love and a desire to spread this sport in the eastern region, in addition to the distinctive capabilities of the bride of the eastern coast in the field of combat games.
Among the most prominent players are Abdullah Khamis Al Kayani, who won the gold medal for the Armed Forces, the player Suleiman Al Sharari, who won 4 gold and bronze medals in the Armed Forces championships, and the player Abdullah Hassan Al Sharari, who participated in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship last year and achieved an advanced position.
